Lyndon Johnson's "Great Society" [ushistory.org]

LBJ envisioned a "Great Society" and declared "War on Poverty." He was very successful in promoting his domestic reforms, including creating Medicare and Medicaid, but his achievements were overshadowed by the war in Vietnam.
